What is Assisted Zona Hatching?

Assisted Zona Hatching (AZH) is an advanced IVF laboratory procedure in which a small opening is carefully made in the embryo’s outer protective layer, known as the zona pellucida. This helps the embryo “hatch” more easily and attach to the uterine lining, improving the chances of successful implantation and pregnancy.

In a natural pregnancy, the embryo must break out of its outer shell before implantation can occur. Sometimes, the zona pellucida may become thick or hard, making it difficult for the embryo to hatch on its own. Assisted Zona Hatching supports this process during fertility treatment.
