PESA / TESA / Micro-TESE
What is PESA / TESA / Micro-TESE?
PESA (Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration), TESA (Testicular Sperm Aspiration), and Micro-TESE (Microsurgical Testicular Sperm Extraction) are specialized procedures used to retrieve sperm directly from the epididymis or testicles in men with azoospermia (no sperm in the semen).
These techniques help men with severe male infertility achieve biological fatherhood through IVF or ICSI.
Process
1. Evaluation and Diagnosis – A fertility specialist determines the cause of absent sperm in the semen.
2. Sperm Retrieval Procedure – Sperm is collected from the epididymis or testicular tissue using the most suitable technique.
3. Laboratory Examination – Retrieved tissue is examined to identify viable sperm.
4. Cryopreservation or Immediate Use – Sperm is frozen for future use or used directly in IVF/ICSI.
Benefits
- Enables men with azoospermia to father biological children
- Effective for both obstructive and non-obstructive infertility
- Provides sperm for IVF and ICSI treatments
- Minimally invasive options are available
- Allows sperm to be frozen for future fertility treatment
