What is IMSI?

Intracytoplasmic Morphologically Selected Sperm Injection (IMSI) is an advanced form of ICSI in which sperm are examined under very high magnification to select the healthiest sperm for fertilization.

This technique helps improve fertilization rates and may increase the chances of a successful pregnancy, especially in cases of severe male infertility or repeated IVF failure.

Process

1. Sperm Collection and Preparation – A semen sample is collected and processed.

2. High-Magnification Sperm Selection – Embryologists examine sperm under powerful magnification to identify the best-quality sperm.

3. Egg Retrieval – Mature eggs are collected from the female partner.

4. Sperm Injection – A selected sperm is injected directly into each egg.

5. Embryo Transfer – The resulting embryo is transferred into the uterus.

Benefits

  • Allows selection of the healthiest sperm
  • Improves fertilization and embryo quality
  • Useful for severe male infertility
  • Recommended after repeated IVF or ICSI failures
  • May increase the chances of a successful pregnancy
